Training and Capacity Building

Capacity Building and Economic Empowerment

KECOBAT provides training opportunities to communities, local people and the informal sector who are interested in understanding the basics of community tourism and how to fully exploit the employment and business opportunities presented by tourism to their communal area. We also participate in the assessment of training needs and the development of training manuals designed to meet the specific needs of community based tourism.

KECOBAT conducts trainings at both local and regional levels to help the local communities develop sustainable community tourism enterprises

Homestay Trainings

With travel trends becoming more about experiential holidays, Kenya stands a better chance of reaping from the enthusiastic travelers seeking to touch and enjoy the warmth of rural community lifestyles in the simplest of pleasures sharing in the traditional fresh foods, cultures and language.

This has given rise to the concept of homestays in Kenya, providing affordable and secure accommodation options for today’s enlightened tourists. The development of home stays will not only bridge the gap of quality accommodation envisaged under vision 2030 but also provide a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves into the rich and diverse cultural exchange and enhance the spread of the benefits of tourism to the local communities of the Country. It is accordance to this that KECOBAT developed a Homestays criteria that seeks to guide performance and operation of such enterprises.

KECOBAT is alive to the fact that most of these homestays establishment do not have the capacity to offer competitive tourism products and services. The need for capacity building has informed KECOBAT’s efforts in developing training manuals for homestays operators, a project that is on going and has received overwhelming support from various stakeholders led by Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.

The training will enhance productivity, professionalism and increase employability and income opportunities to the informal and formal workers in tourism industry in the country.
